Tai Otoshi

Tai-otoshi - Body Drop

Tai-otoshi is a hand technique, and is very difficult to execute correctly. Therefore, the leg is more often used to execute a techinque that looks the same. Therefore, I will explain the different verisons.

The position for all three verisons:
(from right handed) To perform a Tai-otoshi, you can use the famous 3 step entrance, or any other entrance that you prefer - as long as you end up with hands in the formal position, your back towards your opponent (back to the left of them), your left leg in a position similr to jigotai, but your right leg straight across, barring your opponent.

1. In my opinion, the correct version.
All with your hands, perfoming a circle, the strength coming from your body dropping lower. There is no need to have contact with your opponent's legs in this version.

2. Easiest version, ideal for lower grades.
The right leg barring your opponent is used to 'trip' your partner over your leg, as your arms twist to ensure your opponent is driven into the ground.

3. Ashi Waza version, ideal for contest.
In this version, the barring leg is bent slightly, with the back of your knee against your opponent's shin. As your arms start to perform the technique, your leg snaps straight knocking your partner backwards as your hands execute the technique.
